The Quantity Surveyor in the Internal Control Unit is responsible for ensuring cost efficiency, financial accuracy, compliance, and value-for-money across construction and project-related activities. The role focuses on reviewing project costs, validating valuations, monitoring budgets, preventing cost leakages, and supporting management through effective internal control and audit processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and project budgets.
- Validate contractors’ interim valuations, final accounts, and variation claims.
- Monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Identify cost overruns, waste, and financial leakages, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement procedures, and contract terms.
- Review contract documents for cost-related risks and control gaps.
- Ensure adherence to approved pricing, rates, and cost benchmarks.
- Support internal audits related to construction and capital projects.
- Review tender documents, bid evaluations, and contract awards for cost accuracy and transparency.
- Verify pricing, quantities, and measurement standards during procurement.
- Monitor variations, claims, and change orders to ensure proper approvals.
- Prepare cost control reports, audit findings, and management reports.
- Maintain accurate records of cost reviews, approvals, and audit observations.
- Provide periodic reports on project cost performance and control effectiveness.
- Identify cost-related risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Advise management on cost optimization and value engineering opportunities.
- Support investigations into cost discrepancies, overbilling, or irregularities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3–5 years relevant experience in construction cost control, audit, or internal control.
- Professional membership (NIQS, RICS, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
