Job Description

Role Summary

  • Standard Bearers School, Lekki, is seeking a highly competent and experienced Account Officer to work as a support role to the CFO.
  • We require a candidate with strong accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and high integrity to assist in managing the school’s financial operations, reporting, and compliance.
  • The Account Officer will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in executing day-to-day finance operations, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring proper controls across income, expenditure, and reconciliation processes.

Key Responsibilities (Supporting the CFO)

  • Support the CFO in maintaining accurate accounting records and financial documentation.
  • Assist with fees billing, collections tracking, receipts issuance, and reconciliation of school income.
  • Record and process expenditure transactions, including vendor payments and staff reimbursements, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
  • Prepare and update cashbook, general ledger entries, and schedules for reporting.
  • Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations, monitor inflows/outflows, and flag discrepancies promptly.
  • Support monthly financial reporting: income/expenditure summaries, budget tracking, and key finance updates for management.
  • Maintain petty cash records, ensure proper disbursement procedures, and reconcile petty cash balances.
  • Assist with payroll support tasks and statutory remittances where required.
  • Ensure proper filing and archiving of financial records for audit readiness.
  • Support internal controls, compliance checks, and finance policy implementation under the CFO’s guidance.
  • Provide administrative finance support to the CFO, including preparing schedules, payment listings, and supporting documents as requested.

Requirements (Mandatory)

  • Education: Graduate of an A-list university (must be stated clearly on the CV).
  • Professional Qualification: Must possess ICAN and/or ACCA (part-qualified or fully qualified).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years work experience in accounting, preferably in a structured organization (school experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting tools/software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books, etc.).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.

Added Advantage:

  • Prior experience supporting a finance manager/CFO/Head of Accounts.
  • Experience in an educational institution (school accounting, fee tracking, vendor management).
  • Ability to build simple reporting dashboards/templates in Excel for management use.
